Orvieto
25 km far from La Casella.
The city of Orvieto, in symbiosis with the tuff cliff on which it has
been built, is an exceptional example of deep integration between nature
and men.
Thhis relationship between nature and architecture is explicit, as the
inscription on the famous sink of S. Patrizio affirms: “quod nature
munimento inviderat industria adiecit (“What nature had denied for
the defense - in this case the water - the human activity added”.
Visiting this city is like crossing the history, because there are many
stratified and concentrated traces of every age, from the Etruscan to
the rinascimental and medieval period.
Underground Orvieto
Orvieto has an underground world, a maze of cavities dug into the rock
on which the city is situated. The Etruscan “Velzna” can be
defined as the medieval and rinascimental Ovieto. A visit to the “Underground
Orvieto” represents the more appropriated way to know this new and
particular cultural aspect of a city extremely rich of history and “artistic
jewels”.
